Does FC line get brittle with use?
I fish daily with FC; seems to begin breaking at the knot after about a month.
Is there a way to tell when to change the line?

Assuming you are talking about Fluorocarbon, if you are fishing every day, a month is way too long to go without changing your line, you would think that by retying you would eat into your spool so far that you would be respooling anyways.
