Crystal Lake Fun Fishing
Wow, October 1st already and this is only my 3rd time on the water since April that was not practicing for or fishing a tournament. Basically John & I had a tough day on Medicine Lake the day before, so we thought we would go to Crystal for about 3-4 hours to rinse that from our mouths.
We got on the lake around 7:30am, I caught one on a light carolina rig using a Zoom Super Hog and a 1/8oz Tru-Tungsten Tungsten Sinker. I believe I had one or two other bites out on the bar. We then bounced into some docks, I lost a nice one on a jig and then caught a little peanut. We fished some pads in the large no wake bay, no bites but I saw some nice fish swimming around.
We then ran across the lake to fish some other docks, I got one decent keeper on my Tru-Tungsten Jig. We fished a bit longer, but that was the last fish we caught. Another tough morning on the lake.... Fall fishing can be a feast or famine kind of thing, the past two days have been a bit more famine
I will spending the next couple weekends at home getting stuff done, preparing for the trip to Patoka.
Tight Lines,

You went fishing in October in MN. Did you have to break the ice at the ramp? What was the water temps? Won't be long it will be snowing up there. I think I remember fishing Crystal Lake when I was up there. I did not catch too much except dinks. Is it the lake right off the hwy 100 maybe? It has been so long hard for an old man to remember.

Ha Ha! Not quite, it was 50F air temp in the morning and it got up in the 70's in the afternoon. Water temps were upper 50's to 60F. Probably not the same lake, Crystal is in Burnsville and it has mostly hawgs, very few dinks. I am sure an Old Man like you probably still remembers how much better MN fishing is compared to TN on a day in day out basis

Ya fishing is much better in MN, because the fish are much easier to catch in MN. The fish down south are a bit tougher to catch, limited waters and more fishermen means very pressured lakes. When you get down to Guntersville you will quickly find that out. Your dad learned that this spring on Priest and Tims Ford. Priest is not kind to him but I don't seem to have too much of an issue with it. Day in and Day out I will give MN its props.

Speaking of snow, it has started flurrying this morning
I guess I will just have to drive south more in the winter

What fun! As in the words of Doug Larson, Doug Larson: "If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."
