Record Monster Smallie caught in Idaho

The crazy thing about this fish is that this guy shattered his own state record on the same lake he caught the previous record.  He caught this monster 9lb-11.52oz on a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver.  Wow what a fish!

there is no way that fish was hungry with a puss gut like that. Rich why do you think fish like this one will eat a lure when it is obvious they can't get another thing in their mouths. ike

      Great Question...
From everything that I have read, fish do not usually strike because they are hungry....   Bass for the most part opportunistic feeders.  When they see an easy meal, they usually take advantage, because they never know when the next easy meal will come along.  Also fish strike because they are territorial, especially big ones.  So if a lure enters into there territory they will attack it.  But probably the biggest key, as you may have read in the article, they were catching other fish.  Once you get one fish in a school excited or feeding, often the rest of the school will join in out of instinct and competitive nature.  Kind of like dogs fighting over a bone.  Hope this makes sense.

Then again, he did not get huge by not eating a lot, maybe that Sweet Beaver was just a lil' dessert
