Federation Championships & My New Toy

I am sure some of you been keeping an eye on the Federation Nation Championships to see which 6 guys will be going to the Classic.  Right now as I type they are most likely just wrapping up their final fishing day and 6 participants will be punching their proverbial tickets to the big dance.  The top finisher in each of 6 regions will be fishing on Lay Lake this February for $500,000 and fishing immortality.

I was pulling for Jim Severson to make it the Classic to represent MN, he still has a shot but finished yesterday about 9lbs out of the lead, so it does not look good, but I am sure he represented us well at the tournament.  Later this evening Bassmaster.com should have the results up and we can catch the action on TV  on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN2.

On another note, just got a new fishing toy today
Check out my Shimano Biomaster 2500 spinning reel, got it from Brooklyn Bill's

It is the Japanese equivalent of the Shimano Stradic, although superior in frame & spool design as well as lighter

I was hoping Mr. Mattis would make it. He was in the thick of it. We will see tonight.

He'll probably go home and kick the dog. Boy that has to be tough to be that close. That fifth fish that first day would have done it. 11th place overall. Served Wis. well. Everybody writes about their wins and big bags, but what goes thru a persons head after a tournament like this? 3 0z. away from the classic. How do you deal with that on the way home?.. The next day... And the next. It's one thing to stink up a tournament, but to be so close. Maybe Mike can give us alittle insght on what he will do next? Maybe get him on the radio with you Rich. Fill us other dreamers about what it's like, and what we can do to get that close and maybe make it. Knowing Mike, he'll try even harder next year to try and get back. But like you said Rich. Join a BASS
club, learn from some of these good fisherman, and with some luck, a person could get to the classic. I would just hate to be Mike's dog this week. Stupidhead.

Yeah, I hear what you are saying.  I have never been in Mike's situation but I have finished 2nd in the MN State Federation Championship twice by a combined 3oz   I am sure it will be a long drive, and in the long run I am sure it will make him a better fisherman.  Let's hope his dog is quick

Rich, Your link for Brookly Bills goes to the Antares at $535. I was about to be insanely jealous of your fishing budget. I have decent equipment but have yet to break the $100 mark for a reel. It looks like a great reel. Hope you will post a review after field testing it. Chris

Well I have no Antares in my posession, so no need for the insane jealousy.  The most expensive reel I have is a Shimano Castaic SF, but several reels around and over the $100, you can actually get some real nice baitcasters like the Shimano Scorpions on eBay for about $100...
